Rock out

There’s no need for a guitar or drum set to add some rock to your life. Joya’s new agate drusy crystal statement rings transform rock straight from the earth into African bling in surreal colours.

In beige mink, hot pink, violet sky, jewel purple and – our personal favourite – dark blue, the gemstone rings exude such shine that they could easily be mistaken as synthetic.

Drusy crystals are formed from molten rock forced up to the earth’s surface many years ago. Heat and pressure changes cause cavities to form in this solidifying rock and, over time, new minerals are deposited into these cavities. As these rocks cool, crystallisation of the minerals begins and the drusy crystals are formed. The agate is a type of fine-grained quartz found in various colours arranged in bands or cloudy patterns.

Joya jewellery founder Daphne Fenner and designer Victoria Fenner have embraced these incredible natural phenomena, creating statement rings with an organic aesthetic.

Each ring is priced at R595.
