Liza Grobler exhibits at Brundyn + Gonsalves

Taking her inspiration from an insect no bigger than half a centimetre, Liza Grobler will be opening her exhibition White Termite at the Brundyn + Gonsalves Gallery (formerly iArt) on 9 May 2012. An avid supporter of the arts, Plascon will be sponsoring the paint for the exhibition.

The exhibition takes the behaviour of the termite and translates it into a monochromatic, mixed media installation; a constructed space in dialogue with both the physical structure of the built interior and the people that move through the space. White Termites aims to engage with the audience by giving them the chance to interpret the experience in their own way.

Because of their size, the individual actions of a termite are almost invisible to the human eye, but together their combined efforts give them the power as master builders or forces of demolition.

“I have always been interested in repetitive action, free association and paradoxes… the networks of connotations that define us,” explains Lisa. “The termite meets all these criteria. Although the exhibition title could hint at the political it is rather in the sea of open-ended poetic associations that I find my inspiration.”

This looks set to be an interesting body of work. If you’re in Cape Town, make sure to go and get your culture kick for the week.
