With a private exhibition held at his holiday retreat on the Skeleton Coast, Namibian photographer Paul van Schalkwyk recently launched a striking new collection of aerial photographic art, giving fans another chance to bring Namibia into their homes.
Featuring familiar destinations such as the Namib Desert, Etosha National Park, the Messum Crater and the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, the images reinvent the way in which these popular photographic subjects are generally perceived.
Instead of documenting specific scenes, the images reflect the emotions evoked by the harsh contrasts, extraordinary colours and rich textures of these landscapes. The Namib Desert in particular remains one of Paul’s most cherished spaces and is still a favourite subject of his photography after many years.
Paul is an old friend of VISI and a highly regarded photographer and filmmaker, who has received more than 50 awards. We remain enchanted by his photos and believe they bring a sense of wonder to interior spaces.
