Pablo Picasso’s Women of Algiers broke the world record for the most expensive artwork sold at auction in a Christie’s sale in New York City on 11 May 2015.
The painting was sold for $160 000 000.
On the same night, another world record was broken for the most expensive sculpture to be sold at auction. Alberto Giacometti’s Pointing Man sold for $141.3 million.
