For many visitors to the 2011 Milan Furniture Fair, Mimmo Paladino’s monumental installation entitled La Montagna di Sale (The Salt Mountain), proved to be the highlight.
The Italian artist transformed the Piazza Duomo in Milan with an installation that featured pitch-black, striking horses on a 35m x 10m heap of salt, imported from Sicily. This work of art played with contrasts: the aim was to let passersby consider their ideals and the possibility of tragedy that’s never far behind.
La Montagna di Sale was one of Deputy Editor Annemarie Meintjes’ highlights of this year’s fair. Take a look at her other favourites.
