BMW Motorrad X Tribe Coffee Roasting

WORDS Lindi Brownell Meiring

The new Donford BMW Motorrad is more than just a showroom.

Lined with an impressive array of motorcycles, both vintage, used and new, this exciting space on Cape Town’s Buitengracht Street is the essence of industrial chic.

Modern furnishings and decor (think raw wood, leather, glass and metal) have been combined with splashes of colour and softer elements like hanging plants from local favourites Opus Studio.

The clever use of upcycled motorbike engines, used for both the pendant lights and the central coffee table, which sits on top of two 1200cc Boxer engines, doesn’t go unnoticed. Neither does the fact that you can find a range of stylish and functional lifestyle accessories, from leather jackets and biker boots to helmets and protective gloves.

Leon Potgieter and Mark Philp’s of Donford have also collaborated with Kate Nero, Jake Easton and Bradley Juter of Tribe Coffee Roasting to open a stylish diner-style space within the showroom. “We had been looking to open an iconic space in town for a while,” explains Kate, “when we met Leon. For us, this is a perfect relationship between one of the world’s leading motorcycle brands and our rising lifestyle brand.”

The café, designed by Jake Easton and Michelle Trimborn, will serve not only freshly-brewed Tribe coffee, but a delicious menu headed up by chef Maureen Muller.
