WDC2014 inspired bookends

In celebration of Cape Town being designated World Design Capital 2014, Fabricate Design have released a new bookend.  

A fresh take on a classic design, 2FOLD is engineered for efficient use of material.  Lasercut from 1.6mm thick powder coated mild steel sheet, 2FOLD is bent in two places and rotated at an angle to provide enhanced stability while using less material. This structural consideration is expressed as a feature where it would ordinarily be hidden in a traditional bookend.

“We wanted the bookend to have more visual presence; traditionally bookends are made to disappear,” says Graham Viljoen, design partner at Fabricate.  “Whether used on floating shelves or on your desk, 2FOLD adds a dynamic visual element to even an ordinary run of books.”

Fabricate Design are based in The Fringe – Cape Town’s latest innovation and design district – and were thrilled to be able to launch the product at the inaugural Fringe Handmade Creative Goods Market held at Harrington Square in the first week of December.

2FOLD is available in vibrant yellow and muted greys as a tribute to the colours of the WDC2014 bid.  Stock is available at R150 (single) or R270 (per pair),
