Every year, VISI’s Annemarie Meintjes makes sure her flight is booked for Milan, where she gets the scoop on the Milan Furniture Fair. If you missed out on her daily blog, here are few highlights from her 2011 trip.
Number one on Annemarie’s list was the multitude of installations around Milan and within the Fair. On her return, she couldn’t stop talking about the breathtaking Metamorphosis project by Vincente Garcia Jimenez for Foscarini at Superstidio PI`U – an installation made from gigantic light sculptures that repeated, rotated and repositioned themselves to create a multiplicity of designs. Another favourite was Mimmo Paladino’s art installation of black horses perched on a mountain of salt on the palazzo next to the Duoma.
Among Annemarie’s pick of hot new items was the Weekend Objects Collection by mermeladaESTDIO from Barcelona, while the designer that made her stop in her tracks was Marti Guixe, whose been snatched up by Magis.
Her Milan travel tips?
“I found the Air France tickets priced best,” she says. “Their Frequent Flyer Miles system is the most rewarding and it allowed me to stop over in Paris to stock up on Chanel. I’ve also discovered that it’s best to fly into the Linate Airport Milan. It will cost you one Euro to get into the centre of Milan with a bus, opposed to landing at Malpens and waiting for a taxi that will cost you 80 – 90 Euro.”
When planning your 2012 trip, she says, it’s best to book a hotel close to the Duomo or the Zona Tortona area. “It just makes life so much easier – and cheaper – if you have to attend a number of openings and cocktail parties all over the city. Book NOW for next year!”
