Suzaan Heyns opens shop

Melville is another hot design destination richer with the opening of fashion hero Suzaan Heyns’ first store. 

Located on the corner of 9^th Street and Rustenburg Road, the trendy store design complements Suzaan’s covetable womens- and menswear collections.

The concept for the store came about when Suzaan took a critical look at the shopping experience, working backwards from the desired aesthetic to functionality. “It’s about a lifestyle, art, jewellery, ceramics, interior design and, of course, fashion,” she notes, mentioning that the store evokes a feeling of luxury, uniqueness and the unusual.

A colour scheme of gold, white and nude features throughout, with striking gold skulls used as a point of departure. Nude, a feminine colour with a rich, layered history, was chosen as a contrast to the modernity of gold.

Suzaan collaborated with Adriaan Hugo of Dokter and Misses in designing the store’s clothing rails and other interesting fittings. VISI loves the functional rocks that anchor the rails, and the ceramic light fixture by Ceramic Matters, with hands reaching down to customers.

Conveniently located on a strip of stores that include Black Coffee, Entropy and Superella, Suzaan’s shop is set to become a popular destination for Joburg fashionistas. Apart from her own collections, the store also stocks Marc Jacobs sunglasses, jewellery by Ivka Cica and shoes by UK-based label FINSK.
