Vintage flavour

Jack Russell designs have impressed us again with their packaging for Prince Albert Olive Oil.

Briefed to design olive-oil packaging that would capture the soul of the Karoo and which will have a strong shelf presence, the creative team came up a vintage feel label for both bottles and tins.

“We explored about eight different directions, ranging from shards of Anglo-Boer War crockery to interesting cog figures. Our first design, based on classic Victorian wrought-iron designs, was chosen,” says Craig Cockroft of Jack Russell design.

“The familiar Karoo ‘windpomp’ image was playfully used to illustrate extraction of oil from the olives. The owl, mouse and rooster hint at farm life and nature. The “old-style” design is intended to appeal to the collector in us,” he continues.

From sunny South Africa, for four generations, the Badenhorst family has produced fine food and wine. Their love affair with the land and its bounty continues with this extra-special extra-virgin olive oil. Made with patience and care, it’s extracted from olives harvested from groves in the Prince Albert hamlet in the Great Karoo.

Their debut oil won Gold in the 2010 South African Olive Oil Awards.
