VISI’s Etienne Hanekom transformed a simple white napkin into a beautifully tailored origami shirt for COORD.
Joining extraordinarily talented VISI Art Director Etienne Hanekom for dinner is bound to ensure a night of say-it-like-it-is conversation, wicked humour and unlimited creativity.
True to his renowned design skills and trademark style of masculine eccentricity, Etienne transformed a simple white napkin into a beautifully tailored origami shirt, complete with patterned bowtie, in an initiative for COORD.
COORD – a local events company – commissioned a number of their creative friends to indulge in a spot of napkin doodling in a series called “Napkination-designa-doodle”. It’s a weekly blog insert, which casts some light on the intriguing thought processes of creatives.
Here’s what Etienne had to say about the charms and challenges of attending events:
Q – Who do you hope never to sit next to at a dinner party?
A – An intellectual!
Q – What’s the most elaborate thing you can fold with a napkin?
A – A bra, well, a tiny bra for a little girl, or for a mouse if the napkin is small enough.
Q – What’s the one thing you still can’t say at a dinner party?
A – I don’t understand the question? Can’t say? I don’t have that problem…
Q – What do you say to make dinner party conversation instantly more interesting?
A – “Ek dink jy is ‘n lesbian.”
Q – What words on an invitation guarantee that you won’t go to the event?
A – “Cash bar”
Q – Perfectly punctual or fashionably late?
A – Fashionably punctual!
