Judges announced for 1.618 competition

VISI’s Annemarie Meintjes is among the list of judges recently unveiled by PG Bison to decide the winner of this year’s prestigious 1.618 competition.

Almost 20 years since the first PG Bison competition, its prestige is reflected in this year’s stellar judging panel. A host of brilliantly successful and respected individuals make up the 1.618 judging panel for 2011 as follows:

· Annemarie Meintjes – deputy editor and chief creative for VISI
· Phil Mashabane – president of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP)
· Callie van der Merwe – founder partner of the Design Partnership, Corobrik winner and winner of the inaugural PG Bison competition
· Andrea Kleinloog – Elle Decoration Designer of the Year nominee 2011, VISI Designer of the Year nominee 2011
· Ryan Ilgner – president of the South Africa Institute of Interior Design Professions (IID)
· Greg Gamble – VISI Designer of the Year nominee 2011 and winner of the Special Award 2011 with Philippe van der Merwe, Tonic
· Nthabi Taukobong – founder of Ditau Interiors
· Kim Fairbairn – founder of Continuum Architects and Fairbairn Architecture
· Pat Henry – partner at MDS Architecture and founder of Design Base at MDS
· Sarah Calburn – multiple award winner and programme director for Architecture AZA 2010
· Roy Naeser – head creative for In Store Development, Foschini

PG Bison also unveiled two media partnerships for the competition, namely VISI, as the consumer media partner, and Designing Ways magazine, extending its trade media partnership. Marketing manager, Jason Wells, describes these partnerships as “a really good fit in that we have cemented our communication about the 1.618 competition to the trade and also expanded our scope to include a more commercial core with our partnership with VISI.”

Another great innovation for the 2011 competition is the introduction of an open competition in conjunction with Joburg Art Fair. The winning table and bookshelf design – as selected by judges Adriaan Hugo of Dokter and Misses and Ross Douglas of Artlogic – will be built for the Fair in September.
