Taking their colour cue from the fashion world, where nude hues have been prominent in recent collections from Christian Dior, Chanel, Hermès and Gianfranco Ferré, décor and interiors are revealing a flesh-coloured trend, too.

From dusty pinks and pale creams to the barest hint of beige, this subtle palette is en vogue for paints, fabrics and finishes. Use a soft shade on its own, or layer various hues for a harmonious interior scheme. They are perfect paired with wood and natural stone, or with textured lace, ruffles and pleats.

And, while their traditional association may be feminine and soft, these new neutrals can also stand their ground when teamed with black, navy or dark brown for a more contemporary look.
