The ‘grandest’ event on the home design, decor, garden and building scene returns this weekend to the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg. Watch our video.
Grand Designs Live Home & Garden Show is perfect if you’re interested in interiors, building, kitchens, bathrooms, gardens, shopping and delicious food. Now in its second year, the show provides plenty of amazing ideas to turn your dream home into a reality.
Look out for:
– The Design Arcade: An area within Grand Designs Live that focuses on featuring new up-and-coming products, companies and designers.
– The Grand Theatre: An area that offers visitors an interactive “how to” experience where celebrities and experts offer tips, advice, ideas and inspiration. Situated within the dedicated Kitchens & Bathrooms area, the Chef’s Theatre tantalises the taste buds with top chefs sharing their culinary secrets. Guest speakers include Trevyn McGowan from Design Consultancy, Collin O’Mara from St Leger & Viney on fabric trends, Aki Anastasiou about the latest gadgetry and Justin Bonello giving insights into what you’re eating.
– Grand Build: Here you’ll find the brand-new DIY/Eco Theatre as well as the Expert Centre, which is launched at Grand Designs Live 2011. Build encourages visitors to get one-on-one advice from top-class experts in various fields. Experts are on hand to assist in everything from interior design, architecture and landscaping to understanding home automation and going green
– The Interiors Section, sponsored by Freeworld Coatings, where the main feature is The South African Institute of the Interior Designs Professions House. The idea for this feature was to build a seven-roomed house at the show. One established designer and one celebrity worked together to decorate their individual room, with visitors voting for their favourite. The pairs are Tamara Dey and Phil Darby, Pabi Maloi and Mark Rielly, Justin Bonello and Liezel Malan, David Tlale and designer Aidan Bennets, and Sureshnie Rider and Tracy Lynch.
– The Eco Village: This area displays houses made with sustainable building techniques.
– The House of the Future within the Technology area. This section presents plenty of must-have gadgets for the home.
Get there today (22 May 2011) if you can! Tickets cost R80 for adults and children under 16 can attend for free. For ticket bookings or more information, visit www.granddesignslive.co.za.
