The VISI team always eagerly awaits the unveiling of a new Freeworld Design Centre pod, and this month we were afforded a sneak peek at four new, spring-inspired installations.
Entitled “Spring Break” the four pods are designed by Frank Böhm, Inhouse Brand Architects, Jay Smith Collection and Sam Scarborough, and offer an eclectic mix of interior inspiration for the new season.
Frank Böhm
Colour blocking has moved from the runway into interiors and served as Frank’s main inspiration when dreaming up his pod. Making a statement in bold hues, Frank explored strong graphic detail within this deconstructed space. Conceptual furniture meets hard-edged industrial elements for a dose of the unexpected. www.frankbohmstudio.co.za
Inhouse Brand Architects
Creating a house within a house, Inhouse Brand Architects conceptualised a space that represents their philosophy of creative solutions within a practical framework. They see their pod as a portrait of the company. Boasting a selection of fynbos, their greenhouse is awash with colour not only from the shrubs, but also from colourful stripes that symbolize a picket fence. www.inhouse.ws
Jay Smith Collection
Proudly South African and well-respected textile and interior designer, Jay Smith’s designs are hand-printed and timeless. Her living-room pod features her latest collection and displays a range of uses for the fabrics, besides just upholstery. One of the latest designs, for example, is reinterpreted onto vinyl and used as flooring. The walls are painted in bright and cheerful stripes, which lend a fresh, spring-like feel to the pod. www.jaysmithcollection.co.za
Sam Scarborough
Sam Scarborough is an art director, designer and stylist, and has published two books on children’s decor with a third on nurseries in the pipeline. Sam created a nursery with a delicate neutral palette and a contemporary South African twist – a space that’s filled with ideas for expectant parents. www.samscarborough.com
The pods are now officially open for viewing until mid-October.
