WORDS Amelia Brown
Celebrated designer Tom Dixon has teamed up with IKEA to create an adaptable range, Delaktig, that allows you to customise and restyle pieces over and over.
“Delaktig” is a Swedish word meaning involvement and speaks to the collection’s collaborative spirit. At its most basic, Delaktig is a single bed that can be rapidly transformed into a chaise lounge or a three-seat sofa by adding additional components.
Made from a hard-wearing, durable aluminium frame, rather than being a finished piece of furniture, the Delaktig is a kind of ecosystem with unlimited possibilities. Tom Dixon has created task lamps, coffee tables and magazine racks – known as “hacks” – that can be clamped, slotted or bolted on at will.
The functional, practical and beautifully engineered Boom Light is composed of a series of cylinders, tubes and junctions made from raw aluminium and arranged in a minimalist sculptural composition. The side table, cut from a sheet of raw aluminium, polished and anodised for maximum durability and functionality, can be a cocktail or bedside table. Other hacks include an attachable side or back panel that can function as support and headboard alike and a magazine rack, all designed as a simple scallop-edged surround.
