This clip gives us a closer look at the natural artworks created in the rice paddies of the Japanese town of Inakadate.
“I don’t think people can really understand rice paddy art without seeing it,” says Vice Mayor Yukio Kasai.

Created using seven rice plants in different colours, these expansive works of art take three months to complete and were originally created as a way to encourage more people to visit the historical town.

“There is a conference to decide what kinds of designs we should create for the next year,” explains Yukio. Before planting can begin, the designs are digitally mocked up and detailed conceptual drawings are made. This year, 1 300 people helped to plant the rice to create the pieces.
