In the 1950s, colour photography was a new-fangled technology, yet to be explored, which is why Leo White of Whites Aviation decided to hire hand colourists to add colour to his black-and-white images of picturesque New Zealand landscapes.

Grace Rawson is one such colourist. In this clip, now at age 83, she revives the practice. Watch from start to finish as she transforms a photographic print into an original work of art.
