New Jersey-based artist Philip Coppola has been illustrating the details of New York City’s subway stations for 38 years.

He was aiming to complete his documentation, which is currently made up of four volumes, of the 469 underground stations by 2030, but has decided to give himself 10 more years to make sure he can capture everything just right.

“It’s my purpose, it’s my life. It’s become my identity, so I have to live up to it,” he explains.
