Zeitz MOCAA Gala

WORDS Malibongwe Tyilo

On the 28th of February 2015, the Zeitz Museum Of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) held its very first annual gala, to honour major donors to the project.

Additional funds were raised from the tickets, which sold at R5 000 each. The money goes toward making the museum accessible to all, and the building of a new Zeitz MOCAA Costume Institute.

Some 320 guests were treated to a three-course meal, music performances and a fashion show from the first four designers who will be honoured by the Institute when it opens: Marianne Fassler, Gavin Rajah, Thula Sindi, and Chris Levin. The red carpet event was held at the Allan Gray building opposite the site of the Zeitz MOCAA, which will open its doors in Cape Town in early 2017 at the V&A Waterfront’s silo district.
