San Francisco born artist Kay Sekimachi’s work includes a series of bowls fashioned out of the skeletons of maple leaves.
The delicate artworks are held together with the help of Kozo paper and a special coating of watercolour paint. This – and more of her work, which covers a career that spans nearly 50 years – goes on display from 3 July 2015 at the Bellevue Arts Museum in the US.
Inspired by her ancestral homeland of Japan, Sekimachi is known to eschew excessive colour in her work in order to highlight its sculptural qualities.
