Instagram makes it really easy for anyone to take good-looking pictures, but by following a few simple Instagram tips from Skinny laMinx’s Heather Moore, you can elevate your feed from good to great.
#1: Fake it! (in a genuine way)
When you post pics of your home to Instagram you want it to look tidy, of course, but a superneat, overstyled pic can be boring. Giving the impression of a recently abandoned activity (some pruning, in this case) makes a space look lived-in and spurs the viewer’s imagination.
#2: It’s hip to be square (or long or wide)
Instagram allows only square pics, but different aspect ratios are also nice and create variation in your feed. Download apicture-cropping app like SquareIt or InstaSize to give you options.
#3: Go in close
Avoid having to tidy up too much at home by going in for a close-up. Compose tablescapes, just using whatever you have at hand. It’s all in the composition, so play with combinations of colour, shape, pattern and surface.
#4: Instagram is for fun!
Before hoovering the living room, you tossed the sofa cushions onto the balcony to air. Take a snap of the tottering pile and add a funny caption or hashtag, like #leaningtowerofpillows. Humour is a great way to communicate with your Instagram friends.
#5: Edit, edit, edit
Don’t only use the standard Instagram photo filters but also familiarise yourself with the photo-editing features that are available. A well-considered crop and adjustments to brightness, contrast and sharpness often make a world of difference.
