Thickness, materials, movement. This is how Nicolas Roche, Collections Director at high-end French furniture brand Roche Bobois describes the Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
“The thickness, in the figurative sense, gives meaning to the objects (Aqua, Chimère),” says Nicolas. “The materials (ceramic, marble) allow the designers to build the objects, giving life to their vision. And the movement, whether real or designed, animates pieces that would otherwise be fixed (Abstract, Itinerary, Scala).”
The collection sees the re-release of the classic Ozoo desk and matching chair in its five original colours, designed in 1968 by designer and architect Marc Berthier. This is the first time Roche Bobois has reintroduced a design since its inception 58 years ago. “The Ozoo desk and chair are iconic pieces,” he says. “Choosing to re-release them is a very good move for many reasons: their shape, function, colour, shine, style and spirit. Their design – one single piece like a monolith – made their production easier and less expensive, which allowed us to expand our distribution.”
The collection will also focus on bright colours, 3D fabrics, marble, horizontal and vertical shapes, the use of quality materials and delicate detailing, as well as unconventional materials including plexiglass, embossed oak, rattan and ceramics.
