On Saturday 19 May, a beautiful autumn morning, guests arrived at the expansive Boschendal Farm Estate in Franschhoek to join VISI on a sold-out tour of the gardens and the manor house, as well as a visit to the refurbished Boschendal at Oude Bank in Stellenbosch.

Groups got to explore the gardens with Megan McCarthy, Boschendal’s Food Garden Manager, who took us on a tour of the organic Werf Food Garden, filled with hectares of vegetables and fresh produce, while historian Tracey Randall enthralled us with the fascinating stories and traditions of this historic farm, founded in 1685.

Guests were treated to bubbles and canapés from The Werf Restaurant, as well as snacks from the farm’s bakery, butchery and farm shop.

After touring the farm, we headed through to the centre of Stellenbosch for a wine tasting at Boschendal at Oude Bank, a bakery and bistro located on the corner of Bird and Church Streets, that was refurbished and reopened in 2017.

Before heading home for the afternoon, each guest received a goodie bag packed with delights and discount vouchers from Mungo Design, Vida e Caffè, Eat Out, Boschendal Farm Estate, Skinny laMinx and The Rug Company.

VISI Great Spaces Tours gives you the opportunity to experience the places featured in the magazine for yourself!

With 30 tours of fabulous spaces we feature in each issue of VISI under the belt, we figured it was time to take them to the next level, starting with a tour of the glorious Boschendal Farm Estate plus a visit to the newly launched Boschendal at Oude Bank in Stellenbosch.

Join us on a tour of Boschendal Estate followed by a wine tasting at Boschendal at Oude Bank in Stellenbosch on Saturday 19 May 2018.

Starting at 10 am at The Werf Restaurant on Boschendal Estate, we will enjoy bubbles and canapés before embarking on a tour of the estate’s impressive gardens, a visit to the pigs and piglets, and a walking tour of the Werf on the farm.

At 12:30 we will depart for Oude Bank in Stellenbosch for a wine tasting, where all attendees will receive a parting gift courtesy of Boschendal.

The VISI Great Spaces Tour calendar for 2018 kicked off on Saturday 3 March with a visit to Kunjani! Wines in Stellenbosch.

Guests were warmly welcomed and hosted by co-owner Pia Watermeyer and her team. Designer Haldane Martin, who was responsible for the vibrant interiors, was on hand to give guests a detailed guided tour. The rest of the morning was spent enjoying the space and the dappled light of the balcony while feasting on the estate’s wines, cured meats and cheeses.

The morning of Saturday 11 November 2017 dawned hot, clear and bright at Twee Jonge Gezellen Wine Estate in Tulbagh.

A perfect backdrop for the last VISI Great Spaces Tour of 2017, where some 60 guests consisting of VISI readers and members of the local design fraternity gathered to hear Tracy Lynch describe in beautiful detail the rationale behind the treatment of the space and the careful curation of artists and makers who contributed to the project.

The Krone MCC flowed and the day ended with a sumptuous luncheon served in the sheltered courtyard. Guests also took home a VISI goodie bag with the latest issue and a bottle of Krone MCC.

On 9 September 2017, a sunny spring afternoon, guests joined VISI’s Editor-in-Chief Sumien Brink on the sold-out tour of Dylan Lewis’s Sculpture Garden in Stellenbosch.

After a glass of welcome bubbles, courtesy of Graham Beck, the tour got started in Dylan’s underground studio, a cavernous space filled with sculpture moulds and charcoal sketches.

The group then headed outdoors into the 7 hectare garden that Dylan describes as a “wilderness”.

Made up of over three kilometres of pathways, the garden is covered in indigenous flora and dotted with approximately 60 of Dylan’s sculptures, from his renowned works of animals and hybrids to his latest pieces focused on Rodin-inspired nudes.

The tour took readers through a large part of the garden, where Dylan talked guests through the meaning behind his works and how they fit into their natural surroundings.

Readers finished off the two-hour walk with a glass of Graham Beck Brut, home-made quiches and delicious macarons, before heading off with a goodie bag with the latest of issue of VISI and a bottle of Graham Beck Gorgeous.

On 26 August 2017, a sunny Saturday morning, guests gathered in Franschhoek at the five-star Mont Rochelle Manor House – the retreat of Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson – for a sold-out VISI Great Spaces tour.

On arrival, guests were treated to fresh fruit juices, coffee and crisp glasses of Graham Beck Brut.

The tour discussed the details behind the revamping of the old manor house, according to Sir Richard Branson’s exacting standards and overall vision. He wanted a space where he could relax with his family and have meals with all 24 of them at the same long table.

After the tour, guests enjoyed a decadent brunch of mini quiches, salmon croissants, smoothies and fruit salad. Each guest took home a goodie bag, including the latest issue of VISI (VISI 91) and a bottle of Graham Beck Gorgeous.

On Saturday 20 May, two groups of VISI readers got the opportunity to explore the brand-new Silo Hotel in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.

The Silo Hotel, run by The Royal Portfolio, is currently featured in our Autumn Issue. Guests were taken on a tour through the Thomas Heatherwick-designed building by the owner of The Royal Portfolio, Liz Biden. Guests were treated to 360-degree rooftop views from the 11th floor, where you’ll find a bar overlooking the harbour, Table Mountain and Lion’s Head and a glass-walled swimming pool.

Apart from a selection of deluxe rooms and the two-storey family suite, readers gained access to both the Penthouse Suite and the Royal Suite, boasting the hotel’s most luxurious amenities, including massage rooms, walk-in wardrobes and private dining rooms.
