Willful Goods is an international homeware and decor brand created by former interior designer Araya Jensen.

For Araya, each item she creates is “made with equal parts purpose, intention, and joy.”

Based in the Midwestern city of Minnesota in the US, Willful Goods originally began as an online store that sold work by other designers. Now, the brand has its own collection of designs, which includes wooden spoons, wooden bowls, chopping boards, mini vessels, honey spoons and wooden salad bowls, all featuring the brand’s signature strip of colour.

Araya has also added tea towels, neon-pink-strip bowls, Birds of Paradise throw pillows and even oval earrings to the brand’s range of products.

Woodturning is one of the oldest woodworking techniques in existence, dating as far back as 1300 BC. These days, although still functional, items created through woodturning have taken on a more ornamental function.

This is something Rodney Band understands all too well. He began exploring the art form in the early ‘90s, and since then has hand-turned a wide variety of bowls from various tree stumps such as Jacaranda and African Black Wood to Pink Ivory and Wild Olive Root. Each bowl is finely polished and coated with Danish oil.

“This creative play continues to nourish me in all directions,” says Rodney. “Every bowl continues to capture the next journey, each with a unique story of its own. I spend days and days spontaneously shaping each piece. After many hours of love, a one-of-a-kind piece is organically brought to life.”

Rodney creates approximately 60 bowls per year, some of which are custom-made for individual clients and some that are available to order through his online gallery.
