Artist Bordalo II creates imaginative and captivating sculptures – all made out of rubbish – of creatures that are most affected by urbanisation.

Animals featured include rats, squirrels, otters, birds and rabbits, all of which have been made from old car parts, construction materials and plastic waste.

With the sculptures, which are built into the facade of buildings, Bordalo II wants to demonstrate the extremity of modern society’s careless use of plastic products and other disposable items made from metal and wood. He collects much of his supplies from factories and landfills.

“With the production of things at its highest, the production of ‘waste’ and unused objects is also at its highest,” says Bordalo II on Facebook. “‘Waste’ is quoted because of its abstract definition: ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’. I create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness.”
