From a mobile home built out of salvaged materials to a sculptural installation featuring more than 7 500 barrels, these are the VISI team’s top picks of the week.

1. Portable Trailer by Invisible Studio

“This little pod, designed by UK-based Invisible Studio, would make for a dreamy getaway spot,” says Online Editor Lindi Brownell Meiring. “Better still, it’s made using recycled materials, including unseasoned timber and waste materials sourced from construction sites. Even the doors were found at a rubbish dump!”

2. Artist Christo’s Colourful Sculpture: The London Mastaba

“Made up of 7 506 painted barrels and based on the trapezoid shapes of mastaba (the Arabic word for bench), this temporary 20-metre high sculpture floats on London’s Serpentine Lake,” says Content Producer Mary Garner. “The mastaba is a form that has fascinated Christo and his late wife Jeanne-Claude for 50 years.”

3. The Soweto Gold Tower by Karabo Poppy Moletsane

“Designer and artist Karabo Poppy Moletsane has worked her magic for Soweto Gold – Superior Golden Lager on one of the Orlando Cooling Towers in Soweto,” says Features Editor Amelia Brown. “Karabo sums it up best: ‘I see Soweto as a great source of inspiration because despite political struggles, the creative aesthetic of the area is often at the forefront. This aesthetic is not one that is trying to be like another, it is one that has been cultivated by South Africans, for South Africans – from street art to music, we see a great reflection of our country. It is unmistakably ours. Soweto isn’t just in the people of Soweto, but in the people of South Africa.'”

Polish painter and director Dorota Kobiela and Academy Award-winning producer Hugh Welchman are in the process of finalising the world’s first fully painted feature film, inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh.

The film, which began as a Kickstarter campaign, focuses on the life story of Vincent van Gogh, told through his paintings and the characters within them. It features over 94 of the artist’s paintings and the story is derived from 800 of Vincent’s letters, up until his death in 1890.

Ahead of the project, which aimed to train 40 painters to create the work featured in the film, Oscar-winning BreakThru studios explained,Every film you see is actually a collection of still images, played back at a speed that makes it appear to be moving. In our film about Vincent Van Gogh, every single one of these individual images will be a painting in the style of Van Gogh. That means our 40 painters (which we will be able to train thanks to your support) will create 56,800 paintings to make this film.”

Check out the trailers above and below. We can’t wait to watch the full feature!

Renowned street artist Banksy has struck again. This time around the famed artist has constructed a pop-up exhibition in the form of a dilapidated (and depressing) theme park (or Bemusement Park as Banksy likes to refer to it) called “Dismaland” in the UK.

The theme park – “where the magic never ends” – will actually only be open to the public for five weeks. The exhibition will feature 10 of Banksy’s own works, as well as numerous pieces from 58 artists from around the world.

Watch the “official trailer” above.
