From a tree-inspired chapel to a dizzying skate bowl, paper leaf sticky notes and delicious Parisian desserts, these are the top VISI picks of the week series – week 215.

1. Yu Momoeda’s Tree-inspired Chapel

“Japanese architect Yu Momoeda is behind the design of this tree-inspired chapel, made up of a structural system that’s based on fractal geometry,” says Content Producer Mary Garner. “The church is set in a tranquil location on the northwest coast of Kyushu Island in Japan and is surrounded by a picturesque national park.”

2. Muralisme Skate Bowl

“Visual artist collective Muralisme has created a 6.5 metre concrete skate bowl in Paris,” says Art Director Anton Pietersen. “The dizzying design has the potential to make skating and BMXing even trickier.” Enjoy some desserted in Paris delicacies while watching talented skaters at the Muralisme Skate Bowl.

3. Sticky Leaf Memo Notes

“South Korean design studio Appree has created a range of sticky notes inspired by leaves and flowers,” says Online Editor Lindi Brownell Meiring. “I want them all!”

4. Mark Broyer’s Hamburg at Night

“Designer and art director Mark Broyer shoots the streets of Hamburg, Germany at night, capturing spots of colour from neon shop lights and street lamps,” says Features Editor Amelia Brown. “The results are truly striking.”

5. Desserted in Paris

“Tal Spiegel is a pastry chef who goes around Paris taking Instagrams of delicately ornate French pastries,” says Managing Editor Samantha Charles. “The colourful images are cleverly styled to match the pair of shoes he’s wearing on the day.

Cape Town-based art director Alison Parker has created an initiative that brings talented kids together with designers to create limited-edition decks.

The Sk8 for Gr8 programme, which revolves around Cape Town’s popular skateboarding scene, hosts a variety of workshops focused on a mentoring system, where designers work one on one with a child and teach them about design and the techniques associated with different design elements.

In the first series of workshops, each child influenced and inspired the design of five incredible skateboards, which were later auctioned off.

Sk8 for Gr8 is hosting their next auction on 20 August 2015, which celebrates eight kids and eight designers involved in Sk8 for Gr8’s latest workshops. Proceeds will go to Nebula, an organisation that works with children in Valhalla Park and Gugulethu. Find more details about the event here.
