The striking ceramic works of South African artist Ruan Hoffmann will be on exhibition at the Anthropologie Gallery in New York over June and July 2011, as part of an exhibition curated by Gallery Director Keith Johnson.

One hundred ceramic plates will go up, some of which were made during the last quarter of 2010, after Ruan’s return from Amsterdam, and others that were created in the first quarter of of this year.

Ruan answers five quick questions about the show, which will no doubt expose a wider international audience to his inspiring works of art:

Do you know who will be present at the exhibition? Will you be there?

Well, hopefully all my friends in New York. I know Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler might be there, so that’s a thrill. I won’t be in New York as I hate my own openings and will be on holiday in Turkey.

Are there themes within the 100 plates? If so, what are they?

No themes really – just a large collection of rather easy imagery that would be good sellers for a store like Anthropologie.

Are all the plates on sale?

All the artworks have already been bought by Anthropologie and they will re-sell these in New York. So, all will be for sale, yes.

What are you hoping this will do for your career?

A second show would be great and I hope to expand the working relationship with Anthropologie to include other products, like rugs.

What do you, as an artist, have in store for 2011?

I’m working on paintings for a solo exhibition in 2012.
