With its understated elegance, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2026 – PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer – invites an environment in which function and feeling intertwine, providing a paired-back palette that inspires well-being and calm.

Every year, the colour selected by the Pantone Color Institute is the shade they see gaining in importance across all areas of design. It is the colour forecast to communicate the colour message that best reflects what is happening in our global culture at a specific moment in time; a hue they see crossing all areas of design, serving as an expression of mood and attitude.

Pantone Color of The Year 2026

“At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a discreet white hue offering a promise of clarity,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.”

Pantone Color of The Year 2026

Despite speculation (once again) over bolder shades being named for 2026, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a billowy hue imbued with a feeling of serenity. Similar to a blank canvas, 2026’s ‘it’ shade is said to signify a fresh start. The hue quiets the mind, encouraging true relaxation and focus that allow the mind to wander and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation.

Pantone Color of The Year 2026

A minimalist statement with a high-end modern feel, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer expresses a pared-back aesthetic. The quiet hue creates a setting in which function and feeling intertwine, fostering an atmosphere of serenity and spaciousness, whether introduced through furniture or furnishings throughout the home. Infused with tranquillity, the shade introduces a spa-like feel in bathrooms and an open, spacious quality in the kitchen.

New Colour Palettes

The Pantone Color Institute created several colour palettes featuring this year’s hue to highlight its versatility:

  • Powdered Pastels – soft tones like Lemon Icing and Peach Dust, which offer subtle shifts in hue.
  • Take a Break – a playful palette featuring delicious, juicy shades like Papaya and Mango Mojito.
  • Atmospheric – think breezy blues and aqueous shades such as Regatta.
  • Comfort Zone – a collection of natural and organic colours.
  • Tropic Tonalities – bright, vivid hues like Paradise Pink and Kiwi Colada.
  • Light & Shadow – a veiled palette of softened hues and shadowy shades.
  • Glamour & Gleam – shimmering greys and metallic tones such as Satin Slipper bring the drama.

A key structural colour, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer adapts, harmonises and creates contrast, bringing a feeling of airiness to all product applications and environments, whether used on its own or combined with other hues. | pantone.com

WORDS Gina Dionisio

Pantone has unveiled its much-anticipated ‘Color of the Year’ for 2025, an organic and neutral hue that captures the essence of global culture, creativity and a greater shift towards sustainability.

With its comforting warmth and understated elegance, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025 captures the spirit of the times and promises to influence creative expression across industries.

The Colour That Captures the Spirit of 2025

Despite speculation over bolder shades like neon green, the “it” hue of 2025 is an earthy, organic tone. Mocha Mousse is “a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial warmth extends into our desire for comfort and the indulgence of simple pleasures,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. The thoughtfully chosen colour connects a sense of luxury with a down-to-earth, approachable style. “The overriding theme as we went into looking for this year’s color was harmony,” she adds.

What Makes the Pantone Color of the Year 2025 Significant

The 2025 selection reflects an increasing societal shift towards slower trends, timeless palettes, and eco-conscious living.

The Meaning Behind the Colour

”Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence. Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute.

How the Pantone Color of the Year Shapes Global Trends

The Pantone Color of the Year is chosen through a meticulous global research process, drawing inspiration from industries such as fashion, interior design, technology, and even culinary arts.

Since 2000, Pantone’s annual colour announcement has profoundly influenced global design trends. ‘Living Coral‘, 2019’s go-to hue was instrumental in inspiring bold, energetic palettes in fashion and interior design, while 2020’s shade ‘Classic Blue‘ influenced branding in uncertain times. ‘Peach Fuzz‘, 2024’s Pantone Color of the Year inspired several big brand collaborations proving that Pantone’s colour selection has some serious cachet.

PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse’s versatility allows it to enhance a variety of palettes and applications across different fields of design and colour-sensitive industries.

Influence on Design and Interiors

Appealing to those who desire a sense of calm in a busy, tech-heavy world, this year’s earthy hue offers a sensory experience that indulges and awakens the senses.

For interiors, the shade delivers comfort with a hint of luxe as it leans into natural materials like wood, polished stone, rattan, wicker, linens and leather.

Pantone Color of the Year 2025 – Pantone's 'Uniquely Balanced' palette — multi-coloured, and somewhat exotic grouping of tones both warm and cool — works well with Mocha Mousse.
Pantone’s ‘Uniquely Balanced’ palette — multi-coloured, and somewhat exotic grouping of tones both warm and cool — works well with Mocha Mousse.

PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse’s versatility means it will compliment various hues. It works effectively as a standout accent among other rich neutrals, offers a refreshing touch when paired with vibrant colours, and makes a strong impact when used alone. And when combined with deeper toasted browns or richly saturated navy shades, it achieves a more sophisticated appearance.

”I couldn’t lust more over the mouthwatering Pantone Color of the Year,” says interior designer Dani Gottschalk (she is responsible for the bold interiors of this Camps Bay villa). “The heavy but comforting darkness of mocha is lifted by the airy texture of mousse, adding a lighthearted sparkle to a moody tale of desire, loss, and temptation. I imagine it poured as an epoxy floor with a boucle kidney-shaped sofa, velvet curtains, vases and flowerpots,” she adds.

The Perfect Shade for 2025?

Love it or hate it, according to research PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is a reflection of where we are as a society, mirroring our collective desire for connection and balance. | pantone.com

Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2024, a soft peach shade called PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz.

According to the colour experts at Pantone, the year ahead looks just peachy. Described as ‘a velvety gentle peach whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul’, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, the 2024 Pantone Color of the Year, presents a fresh approach to a new softness.

“A cosy peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from whether spending time with others or taking the time to enjoy a moment by ourselves,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute. “Drawing comfort from PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, we can find peace from within, impacting our wellbeing. An idea as much as a feeling, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz awakens our senses to the comforting presence of tactility and cocooned warmth.”

Pantone

PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a modern and sophisticated peach colour that is subtle yet impactful. It has a poetic and romantic vibe, with a vintage touch that brings beauty to the digital world. This colour is centred around enriching and nurturing the mind, body, and soul, while also reflecting the past with a contemporary ambience. Peach Fuzz is a clean peach tone that is quietly understated but powerful.

The introduction of PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz also marks the 25th anniversary of the Pantone Color of the Year. Through the years, the Pantone Color of the Year has become a globally iconic cultural touchstone, drawing attention to how what is taking place in our global culture is reflected and expressed through the language of colour.

“With this year’s Pantone Color of the Year 2024, we see an increased focus on community and people across the world reframing how they want to live and evaluating what is important – that being the comfort of being close to those we love. The colour is one whose warm and welcoming embrace conveys a message of compassion and whose cosy sensibility brings people together and enriches the soul,” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “In the spirit of PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, we reflect on the last 25 years of the Pantone Color of the Year program grateful to provide an avenue where designers and colour enthusiasts all over the world can engage in a conversation about colour, be inspired by colour and showcase their creativity within their communities. We look forward to continuing this for many more years to come.”

Like Salt and Pepper, all good things come in pairs! Pantone has announced the colour for 2021 and it is in fact a colour duo. Ultimate Gray, a pebble hue and Illuminating, a bright yellow, are the two shades for this year. Meant to evoke the “optimistic promise of a sunshine-filled day”, and “composure, steadiness and resilience”.  LIQUIDRed, bathroom accessories and tapware brand, show you how to add these colours into your next bathroom design.

A Yellow Feature Wall

Create a light and airy bathroom with added height by laying out bold sunflower colour tiles in a vertical pattern in the shower to create a feature wall, while keeping the rest of the space neutral with wallpaper of grey accents. A wall-mounted washbasin with Matt Black or Chrome bathroom finishes adds a glamorous touch.

The Bold and the Beautiful

Infuse joy and happiness into your bathroom design with bright yellow walls and floors. It will brighten up your space, taking it from boring to interior design haven. Bring the grey hue though your bathroom accessorises and tapware or the soft furnishings like a bathmat, which will also ground your space.

Bathroom Décor

If you’re colour shy and yellow seems like a colour that you wouldn’t want to see permanently on your bathroom wall, you can bring the Pantone colour duo trough the décor. A picture-perfect solution by adding bright yellow bath towels on a towel ladder, which provides an eye-catching storage option. Fashion and function all in one.

Solid as Concrete

Use modern materials like concrete with Chrome accents in the bathroom with touches of yellow to create a look that is sophisticated and highly polished. Chrome is also an incredibly versatile finish, making it the perfect choice for an instant bathroom make-over. Achieve a look that is practical but at the same time optimistic with the stunning colour combination of the year.

However you choose to incorporate the Pantone color duo of 2021 into your bathroom décor, add a dash of sunshine and positivity and have fun.

Pantone has introduced two colours of the year for 2021, PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Grey and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.

The two colours can work independently or together, with the grey representing a strong and solid foundation for the optimism evoked by the warmer yellow hue.

While both colours represent objects seen within the built environment, such as buildings and road signs, these colours are also mirrored in nature, from granite boulders and stones to flowers and sunshine.

The colours are also said to represent acknowledgement, regeneration and rebuilding of life, society, and positivity.

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”
