MRP Home has teamed up with local designers on two new collaborative collections: a winter blanket range and an extensive collection with designer Amanda du Plessis.

The winter blanket collection is made up of four 200 x 230 cm blankets, designed by artist Sid Mulaudzi, textile and surface pattern designer Joy Ezeka, fine artist and designer Neo Mahlangu and designer Amanda du Plessis.

Amanda du Plessis’s blanket is inspired by the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve.

Joy Ezeka’s blanket is inspired by the iconography of Joburg and Lagos.

Sid Mulaudzi’s blanket is inspired by the vibrancy of the streets of Joburg.

Neo Mahlangu’s blanket is inspired by her childhood memories.

Amanda du Plessis has also created a bigger collection with MRP Home, inspired by the ridges and natural surroundings of Melville Koppies Nature Reserve. The range features duvet cover sets, towels, scatters, throws, wall art, placemats, side plates, notebooks, gift boxes and bags, wrapping paper, a rug, a chair and the winter blanket.

The winter blankets retail at R699.99 each, while products in the Amanda du Plessis collection retail between R15.99 for gift wrap and R3 500 for the Maddox Chair.

Here are South Africa’s 50 Emerging Creatives set to make an impact in 2018 and beyond.

Design Indaba’s Emerging Creatives Programme was founded in 2005 to nurture new creative talent and break down barriers to entry for those just getting started. The platform, which has helped launch the careers of Laduma Ngxokolo, Katherine-Mary Pichulik, Daniel Ting Chong and Andile Dyalvane, supports young creatives who have relatively little industry exposure.

The Class of 2018, made up of young architects, fashion designers, illustrators, furniture designers, jewellers, graphic designers and multi-disciplinary mavericks, were selected based on the quality and originality of their work and its ability to stand alongside world-class designs. Of the 50 young designers, 40 will showcase their work in Cape Town at the Artscape Theatre Centre at Design Indaba from 21 to 23 February, with a further 10 showing at LISOF, as part of the Design Indaba Johannesburg Simulcast 2018.

Design Indaba points to some of the highlights to watch out for: prototype appliances, such as a manual washing machine, from promising young industrial designer George Gibbons; colourful camera straps from Lunar Straps founder Tyla Stallbom; an intriguing “wonderverse” by image-maker Sizwe Mbiza; and a new wave of fashion designs for hijabs by Ra’eesah Hoosen, plus many more.
