The intricately detailed embroidered bird brooches, made by Polish artist Paulina Bartnik, look almost as good as the real thing.

Inspired by nature, Paulina starts each of her designs with a piece of wool. Using a dry felt technique, she prods the wool with a needle to create the necessary surface she needs to start. Using another needle, she then paints the surface before finishing each piece off embroidering by hand.

This short video clip shows how Oxford-based illustrator Chloe Giordano creates adorable textile art.

The clip takes us through her inspiration, as well as the process behind making her delicate, miniature freehand embroideries of animals and book covers.

She begins by gathering reference images, which she sketches down before translating them onto fabric. Chloe compares her work to needlepoint, although her work is a lot freer, without a set guide.

“It’s wonderful doing that last stitch. Knowing it’s done is really satisfying,” she says.

Fine artist Marilyn Henrion creates breathtaking mixed media artworks of cityscapes, using needlework and digitally manipulated photography.

The softness of fabric and hand-stitching contrasts the angular and geometric lines of her subject matter, which focuses predominantly on modern architecture, and in her latest collection, windows.

These captivating pieces will be on exhibition at the noho M55 Gallery in New York from 29 September to 17 October 2015.
