Replicating an aged metal surface, Iron Corten was selected to provide a contrast of colour against the sophisticated greys and muted whites, while also complementing the earthy tones present throughout the property. The warmest decor from the Iron Collection, Iron Corten, with its strong orange hues inherent to iron oxide, communicates an alluring aesthetic.

In addition to its visual qualities, durability was equally at the core of Rossi’s selection process for specifying Neolith. “We wanted a hard-wearing surface that would remain intact over time and withstand the wear and tear that typically occurs in the home environment,” explains Rossi.

With a highly resistant satin finish, Iron Corten delivers a surface hardness that is often favoured for commercial use. The application of the matte finish to a residential project offered a hard-wearing integrity to the design.

Hygienic, waterproof, easy to clean and 100% natural, Neolith’s properties provide a versatility that made the surface equally suitable for application in the kitchen and breakfast room.

“Neolith’s properties meant we could apply the panels to different rooms throughout the home in full confidence that the surfacing material possessed the qualities best suited to the functionality of that particular environment,” says Rossi.

“Being able to cover large areas with fewer panels, combined with Neolith’s lightweight properties provides installation advantages from a labour, time and cost perspective,” says Rossi. As an illustration of this, a 3mm and 12mm Neolith panel weighs only 7 kg/m² and 30 kg/m² respectively.

Tanzanian born, UK raised architect David Adjaye’s work spans the planet. His more recent work includes the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management.

Now he has turned his creativity towards The Adjaye Collection, a new range of African-inspired textiles for American design firm, Knoll. The range was unveiled in Chicago in June 2015.

“I never knew that I was interested in textiles. The collection for Knoll is inspired by a fascination I’ve had with geometry, form and texture. I actually didn’t know that it was something that could translate into textiles until I met Knoll’s Creative Director Dorothy Cosonas and her team,” says David in a video posted on Knoll’s website.

The different fabrics are named after different places on the African continent, such as Djenne (Mali), Meroë (Sudan) and Harare (Zimbabwe). “Essentially, these are names some of my favourite places. I hope that the names speak to people in a way that makes them want to know more about those places,” adds David. The range consists of upholstery, wall coverings and drapery, across nine prints. It will be officially launched in September 2015.
