From 16 to 19 June 2022, Decorex Cape Town‘s food focus will include an interactive Jar Exchange for Ladles of Love by FOOD XX and Njano by moea design studio – a restaurant that pays homage to African beadwork.

FOOD XX Jar Exchange

FOOD XX was founded by Hannerie Visser of Studio H, a culinary-minded design team whose work is driven by the senses and defined by science, innovation and the pursuit of a sustainable future. The concept for their Jar Exchange comes from FOOD XX’s “kitchen” – a platform dedicated to empowering and celebrating women and LGBTQIA+ folx in food and drink through its provision of a safe space to build networks and collaborate on solutions.

The Exchange invites attendees from all over the peninsula – not just women – to swop jars of preserves (made or bought), along with their origin-recipe stories, for an empty Consol jar; a prompt to keep paying it forward. The preserves will be donated to Ladles of Love, an NPO that feeds the hungry in Cape Town, and the recipe story cards will be compiled into an online archive. After the event, the Jar Exchange will continue at the V&A Waterfront’s Makers Landing.

NJANO Restaurant

Designed by Cassandra Twala and Johanna von Stein of moea design studio, Njano is an eatery that takes a minimalistic approach to a traditionally maximalist African craſt. The use of beads and beadwork is the driving motif for form, repetition and collective structure. Expect beads magnified for the creation of striking visual landscapes and an equally unique menu.

100% Design South Africa will run alongside Decorex Africa from 16 to 19 June 2022 at the CTICC in Cape Town and 28 to 31 July 2022 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Joburg.
