With another cold winter in South Africa, we all want to keep our homes warm and cosy – but without breaking the bank. Luckily, LG Electronics is helping us do exactly that.

The company has announced a massive sale across all product categories starting 18 May 2022 as part of the Life’s Good Celebration Sale – and with the sale comes incredible savings on LG’s ArtCool air conditioners.

Stores and stockists across South Africa are participating in the sale, which will end on 3 July 2022, or until stocks last. And when you buy any LG product, you can stand a chance to win a share of up to R500,000 in LG prizes, simply WhatsApp your receipt to +27765922166 to enter.  A list of LG Artcool air conditioner stockists can be found on LG.com/za.

Energy-efficient air conditioning

LG is at the forefront of next-generation residential air conditioning. LG’s ArtCool heating and cooling air conditioning units harmonise with the interior of your home with a reflective mirror glass surface and minimalist design. They also feature DUAL Inverter Compressor technology that saves up to 70% energy compared to conventional compressors, as well as the Active Energy Control function that allows you to adjust energy consumption levels.  So you can enjoy a warm home this winter without worrying about your electricity bill.  And you can heat your space more evenly and quickly with an LG air conditioner – up to 90% faster than a typical radiator / heater, keeping you comfortable in this season and the next with added peace of mind that the DUAL Inverter Compressor comes with a 10-year warranty.

Breathe easy with cleaner air

We are naturally spending more time indoors during winter and so it is important to think about the quality of air you are breathing.  Traditional heating solutions such as gas or electric heaters often heat slowly and unevenly and have no air purification features.  LG’s ArtCool air conditioners, on the other hand, feature ioniser air purification technology that sterilises up to 99% of adhering bacteria within 60 minutes. The units also have an auto cleaning function, preventing bacteria or mould from forming on the heat exchanger.

Smart app integration

ArtCool air conditioners can be controlled remotely using LG’s ThinQ mobile app. This means you can turn the air conditioner off as you’re heading out, or heat up your home before you get back from work. It also offers various personalised options, allowing household members to choose and save their preferred air conditioning temperatures. The Smart Diagnosis function allows users to conveniently check setup, installation, troubleshooting, and other information directly from a smartphone.

ArtCool deals to look out for

During the Life’s Good Celebration Sale, LG is reducing the price of the Artcool range of capacities including the 12k BTU, 18k BTU, and 24k BTU ArtCool air conditioners to R16,499, R21,999, and R24,999 respectively – which amounts to savings of up to R4,850 per unit.  Available at Hirsch’s, Premium Air, Livance, Professional Air and Severon. LG’s Premium Ceiling Fan, which has a patented design for efficient natural air flow, is also available for R3,499 at Premium Air.

In our ideal VISI universe, call it a VISIverse, even the most functional things would go beyond mere practicality. They would be things of beauty, and such is the new bridge in Paddington’s Merchant Square in London.

The Merchant Square Footbridge, which was created by Knight Architects, together with structural engineers AKT II, is made up of five steel beams that rise and fall using hydraulic jacks to allow boats to pass.

The beams rise and fall in sequence; the highest beam rises up to a 70° angle, with the following four rising up to lesser degrees in order to portray a fan-like effect. The space created then allows boats up to 2.5m in height to pass underneath the bridge.

It is a feat of technology and structural design, especially when considering the fact that each of the steel beams weighs between six and seven tons, and that they are counterweighted with a further 40 concrete-filled tons to keep them steady as they fall over the Grand Union Canal.

The bridge is part of a wider regeneration effort by the city for the specific site. Future plans include a water maze, a garden, as well as several new buildings.

Miele’s new DA 2900 ceiling extractor is perfect for open-plan kitchens. Due to be launched at the end of March, the extractor boasts a streamlined in-ceiling design, offering design freedom to turn the kitchen into a bona fide living room.

In modern kitchens, a cooking island often represents the transition from kitchen to dining room or living room. A giant extractor hood above the island can be unsightly and obstruct the view into the next room. Miele’s new DA 2900 ceiling extractor therefore sets a new standard in terms of discreet design and energy efficiency.

Unlike a conventional extractor hood, a ceiling extractor is positioned much further away from the hob unit below. In most cases, this requires a suspended ceiling or an alternative method of concealing ducts and technical components. To achieve acceptable solutions in rooms with a standard ceiling height, the modular DA 2900 caters for a variety of installation options. The most elegant method of installation is to use an external fan, fitted in an outside wall for example, to keep the build-in height of the ceiling extractor with a top ducting connection down to only 117mm. Even in rooms of normal height, this will not make the space looked cramped.

Miele has deliberately opted for multi-zone edge extraction. This approach conceals the maximum possible extraction area behind four individual panels to ensure optimum air flow. Cooking vapours are drawn in along the edges of the unit and the gaps between the panels before passing through hidden metal grease filters. The four panels, which come in stainless steel or alabaster glass, are individually removable and can be conveniently cleaned in a dishwasher.

When it comes to energy efficiency, the DA 2900 ceiling extractor uses significantly less power than conventional extractor motors. Four high-power LED downlights shed bright, warm-white light on the hob below and, overall, this achieves energy savings of up to 70% compared with conventional technology. As with all Miele appliances, the DA 2900 ceiling extractor hood is designed, built and tested to last for a minimum of 20 years, which further reduces its carbon footprint.

The new Miele DA 2900 ceiling extractor will be available from March 2012 and will retail for R32 999. The price of the stainless-steel panels is R2 299 and the alabaster glass is R2 999.
