Founded in 2015 by Danish design duo Nikolaj Meier and Knut Bendik Humlevik, New Works emerged from a desire to create a range of contemporary, minimalist homeware. Inspired by traditional Japanese rice paper lanterns, the Lantern was designed by Anderssen & Voll, whose interest in cultural forms can be seen within the elegant and understated piece.

Nebra Pendant Lamp

As a small soft cloud, the Tense Pendant appears to ‘float’ thanks to its modern construction, consisting of a soft Tyvek diffuser.

The renowned Danish children’s furniture brand FLEXA is now available in South Africa.

Established in 1972, FLEXA aims to create versatile kids’ furniture, from fairy-tale sleep spaces and brain-stimulating study nooks to imaginative play areas, all of which can evolve over time as children grow older.

Reflections Copenhagen, a Danish collection of crystal pieces and decorative mirrors, is now available in South Africa, exclusive to Casarredo.

Reflections Copenhagen is a range of delicate pieces, including crystal bowls, vases and striking mirrors, designed by Danish duo Hugau/Larsson – jewellery designer Julie Hugau and interior designer Andrea Larsson. They are inspired by art and graphics, specifically the graphic expression of the Art Deco movement. Every piece is made by hand; irregularities add to the hand-crafted character and delicate beauty of the pieces.

Casarredo, known for importing top international luxury brands, is the sole stockist in South Africa of the Reflections Copenhagen range.

Renowned Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, the designer behind the Little Sun and Little Sun Diamond solar lamps, has completed his first building in collaboration with architect Sebastian Behmann.

Entitled Fjordenhus, the 28-metre-high building is located on Havneøen, a man-made island in the Vejle area of Denmark. Made up of four connected cylinders, using fifteen varying tones of Danish brick, Fjordenhus features 3D-formed curved windows that perfectly fit the striking geometric shapes of the design.

While the building is predominantly used as an office space, the double-height lower level is accessible to the public, complete with art installations created by Olafur himself. Inside, connected via spiral staircases, is a range of custom-designed furniture and lighting, also created by Olafur and his brand Studio Olafur Eliasson. The interior cabinets, bathrooms, kitchens and staircases make use of wood as the focus material.
