Artist Katie Paterson and architects Zeller & Moye have created a striking public artwork entitled Hollow, situated on the Royal Fort Garden grounds in Bristol.

This contemplative and relaxing space is constructed from 10 000 unique samples of tree species, with combined ages of over one million years old, collected from around the world.

Inside the Hollow, a miniature forest of tree specimens are displayed in varying heights, ranging from petrified wood to newer species.

Openings within the ceiling give the effect of dappled sunlight over a forest canopy.

The artwork was commissioned to celebrate the opening of Bristol University’s new Life Sciences building.
