Porcelain, cactii, knits, stitches, cork and felt – this years’s Design Indaba Expo saw textures, folds and innovative creativity like never before. Stylist Marian Ward had a wander around the expo and sent us her personal favourites. She said: “Prestigious international stores, such as Anthropologie, boast designs from London to New York – and now South Africa too! Please do the same in your own home. Choose one unique hand-made piece of local furniture or ceramics as a feature for your living space. Pick something that is both functional and decorative.”

]]> Amanda du Plessis of Evolution has released a new range called Desert Diaries, inspired by stories and images that she unearthed at the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town. Amanda has reworked the images, creating nostalgic printed and knitted throws and cushions. 

Evolution’s salvaged school chairs, which earned Amanda and artist Elizabeth Pulles a spot as finalists in this year’s Absolut VISI Designer of the Year Awards, are now available at the US-based speciality store, Anthropologie.
