Selected from 265 projects across 33 categories, the winners of this year’s Restaurant & Bar Design Awards have finally been announced.

Having previously featured our favourites from the 2017 shortlist, we were excited to find out which of the world’s most stylish hot spots had come out on top, and whether any of our local restaurants received a much-deserved accolade. In fact, Johannesburg’s Urbanologi, which VISI featured here, took home the award for most beautifully designed restaurant in the Middle East & Africa category.

Designed by Buck Studio, Nanan Patisserie in Poland is a contemporary confectionery kingdom that is inspired by the éclair.

Nanan (meaning “sweetmeats” in French) is located in Wrocław, Poland alongside the Oder River. The intimate fourteen-seat space boasts a signature design that really does take pretty-in-pink to the next level. The deliberately minimalist interior is a surreal yet subtle setting for the leading characters of the space: exquisitely decorated designer cakes and a meticulously-made speciality confectionary: the éclair.

A soft ambience is created by arched doorways and pink velvet walls that are carefully contrasted with accents of shining brass and pale marble tables reminiscent of strawberries and cream. The éclair-inspired design echoes through to the oval-shaped island display counter where influxes of sweet-toothed customers gather to ogle over tempting bijou sweets and almost-too-pretty-to-eat works of confectionary art.

From lamps, mirrors and door handles to coat hangers and veneer perforation, absolutely everything in this pastel pink sweet space has been designed with the éclair in mind.
