Joburg’s monthly Collective market has spawned a sibling in the form of a Supper Club, the second edition of which takes place on Saturday 2 November 2013 from 5pm.

As the weather heats up to summer’s dizzy sizzle, the Supper Club is a relaxed way to celebrate the weekend, interact and meet new people, and enjoy the best weather the city has to offer. It’s a great option for Joburgers who are hungry for the new forms of entertainment, far from the mall culture, that are popping up around the city.

Held on the rooftop of the now well-known 3 Desmond Street in Kramerville (read our guide to Kramerville here), expect to toast the setting sun with craft beers and bubbly before sitting down at the long rows of benches and tables, and making some new friends. What the food stalls lack in quantity, they make up for in quality and there is an excellent range from organic pulled chicken and pork paninis to cheese platters, muscles steamed in white wine and pan-fried prawns. Cupcakes and poffertjes (Dutch crumpets) are available for those with a sweet tooth.

This will be the second Supper Club, with the first pop-up dinner held in August. Happening more regularly is the Collective design pop-up, like clockwork, on the first Sunday every month. So after enjoying dinner on Saturday, make sure to come back on Sunday 3 November from 10am to 4pm to shop the latest design, decor, jewellery and fashion trends (read our interview with Collective’s project manager Catherine Corry here).

03 Desmond in Kramerville is Johannesburg se jongste ontwerpbestemming waar van Suid-Afrika se top-ontwerpershandelsmerke hulle nou tuismaak. VISI het ’n draai gemaak om ons gunstelinge uit te soek. Kan iemand nou net asseblief ’n restaurant op die dak oopmaak…

Nap en geniet. Suid-Afrika se antwoord op Armani-huisware bly die toppunt van gedempte styl. Daar is eenvoudig nie ’n beter plek om ’n nuwe geurkers, oorgooideken, glasvaas of enige ander sjiek basiese stuk aan te skaf nie.

Fabcote vir mure en nog wat. Moenie net by muurpapier vassteek nie: Daar is niks meer luuks as materiaal om ’n vaal muur op te kikker nie. Fabcote spog met enigiets van 3D-materiale tot egte bladgoud – voel is glo.

Ontdek die Egyptian Cotton Studio. Uiteindelik kan jy beddegoed van Egiptiese katoen – in veel meer as net wit – aanskaf sonder om jou bankbestuurder die stuipe te gee! Gaan bederf jouself by dié luukse winkel, en loer veral na die spogreeks wat enige tyd by Frette kan kers vashou.

Ora se buitelewe-wonder. Nes ’n mens dink buitelewemeubels kan nie ’n aks opwindender nie, oorrompel ORA ’n mens met hoëdigtheid-skuimstofmeubels wat met rubber bedek is en soos beton lyk. Ons wil onmiddellik hierdie swembad-chaise longue hê!

Wunders kom weer. Een van Kaapstad se mees geliefde meubelwinkels keer terug na die Goudstad met ’n lieflike versameling meubels. Ons is mal oor die dramatiese nuwe winkel wat ook ’n wonderlike inspirasiebron vir muurbedekkings is. Ons groot gunsteling is Wunders se rusbankstelle van linne met die some aan die buitekant.

Mal oor Mud. ’n Mud-kandelaar is een van daardie ikoniese ontwerpergoed wat elke huis verdien. Boonop is dit nou in Johannesburg te koop op die dak van 03 Desmond – een van die allerlieflikste plekke wat die afgelope klomp jaar sy deure geopen het.

Egg is hier! Egg Design is Durban se beroemdste ontwerphandelsmerk – en waarskynlik ook ons grootste uitvoerder – en nou kry Gautengse koopslawe hulle beurt. Die toonkamer is groot en opwindend met ’n geheime vertrek vol slim platverpakte meubels vir kinderkamers. Ons is gaande oor hierdie skommelstoel en voetstoel van dennelaaghout en grys vilt.

Span uit onder die Oggie-boom. Oggie wen sonder twyfel die prys vir die beste toonkamer by 03 Desmond. Hulle het ’n massiewe kremetartboom binne-in die winkel gebou – iets wat jou dadelik kalmeer. En wie droom dan nie van ’n pragtige Oggie-eikehoutvloer nie?

Fabelagtige vondste by The Fabric House. Wie is dan nié gaande oor ingevoerde en ontwerpermateriale en afwerkings nie? Die slim Heather Lund-Truter raap al die afvalstukke by die peperduur plekke op en verkoop dit aan ons vir ’n appel en ’n ei. Respek!

Een, twee, 03cubed. Drie van Kaapstad se koelste handelsmerke – Modern Home Company, Beauty Fires en Fibre Designs – het kragte saamgesnoer en ’n toonkamer by 03 Desmond geopen. Ons is mal oor die huidige kleurontploffing daar en het ’n ogie op ’n draagbare mini-vuurmaakplek. Ja, jy moet dit sien om dit te waardeer!

Magiese materiale van Tessa Sonik. Ons is in die wolke oor Tessa Sonik se nuwe toonkamer digby Sandton. Ons huidige gunstelinge is Tessa se keur van helder skakerings – daar is ’n geel wat ons eenvoudig nie kan vergeet nie.

Indiese idees by Tin Table. Ons is dolverlief op die aweregse Indiese versamelgoed van Tin Table, wat by 44 Stanley gebore is. Die pryse is goed en elke keer as jy besoek aflê, wag daar iets nuuts wat die aandag trek. Hoe klink ’n ou Indiese tandartsstoel?

Hulle was nog nie daar teen die tyd dat ons ons foto’s geneem het nie, maar een van VISI se gunstelinge, Tonic, gaan blykbaar ook 03 Desmond toe trek – iets wat Kramerville beslis die ontwerp-polspunt van Johannesburg sal maak.

VISI popped into Johannesburg’s newest design destination, 03 Desmond, in Kramerville, where some of the top design brands in the country have set up shop, to round-up our favourite pieces. Now can someone please open a restaurant on the roof…

Nap it up. South Africa’s answer to Armani homewear continues to give us the ultimate in understated brilliance. There simply is no better place to buy a fragranced candle, or a bed throw, or a glass vase – or any other chic basic you need. 

Fabcote walls and all. Never mind wallpaper, there can be nothing more luxurious than a fabric on your wall. Fabcote brings you everything from 3D fabrics to real gold leaf – they have to be felt to be believed. 

Explore the Egyptian Cotton Studio. At last, Egyptian cotton bedding that doesn’t break the bank and comes in more than just white! The luxurious shop is a treat, and has a high-end line that gives Frette a run for its money.

Ora outdoors wonder. Just when we thought outdoor furniture couldn’t get more exciting, ORA brings us high density foam furniture, coated in rubber that looks like concrete. We want this killer poolside chaise longue now!

Wunders is back. One of the Cape’s best-loved furniture stores returns to Jo’burg with a brilliant selection of furniture. We love the drama of its new shop and its clever inspiration for wall coverings. Our current must-have is the Wunders loose linen couch sets with the seams on the outside.

We love Mud. A Mud chandelier is one of those iconic design items that every home deserves. Now they’re for sale in Jo’burg on the rooftop of 03 Desmond – one of the most stunning settings to hit the city in a long time.

Egg’s here! Egg Design is Durban’s most famous design brand – they are probably our biggest exporter – and now Joburg shoppers are getting their share.  The showroom’s huge and exciting with a secret room filled with brilliant flat-packed children’s furniture. We love this rocking chair and footstool in pine ply and grey felt.

Under the Oggie tree. Oggie wins the prize for the best showroom at 03 Desmond, hands down. They’ve built a giant baobab tree inside the shop and the effect is calming and delicious. And who doesn’t dream about an Oggie oak floor…

Finds at The Fabric House. Imported and designer fabrics and trims at affordable prices – what’s not to love? Clever Heather Lund-Truter buys all the off-cuts from the expensive spots and brings them to us for a steal. We salute her.

03cubed triples the magic. Three great Cape Town brands, Modern Home Company, Beauty Fires and Fibre Designs have clubbed together to create a 03 Desmond shop and showroom that you want to move into. We love the current pops of colour plus we’ve got our eye on the mini portable fire. Yes, you have to see it to believe it!

Tessa Sonik fabrics. We’re delighted there’s a new Tessa Sonik showroom close the Sandton action. Our current favourites are Tessa’s selection of brights – there’s a yellow we just can’t get out of our head.

Tin Table tips it. We love the quirky collection of Indian collectables at Tin Table that was spawned at 44 Stanley. The prices are good and every time you walk in there’s something new. An old Indian dentist’s chair, anyone?

They weren’t in by the time we took our pics, but apparently VISI favourites Tonic are moving into 3 Desmond too, officially making Kramerville the design hub of Joburg.
